SALONI aspires to emote a sense of joy and optimism through its lively prints and colourful textiles.
These same qualities are the essence of what drives our non-profit collaborations and charitable pursuits. In reciprocity of SALONI’s Indian roots, we seek to cultivate a sense of camaraderie and connection with rural and urban communities that span across India. Our co-creation projects, financial support programs and impact driven initiatives are rooted in a sense of passion, generosity, and altruism for the growing community of initiatives and individuals striving to enrich India’s people and culture.
CONNECTING FOR INDIA
CONNECTING FOR INDIA was founded by SALONI as a platform dedicated to facilitating connections between Indian craft communities and global craft enthusiasts. Through collaborative projects, educational workshops and sponsorship programs, CONNECTING FOR INDIA links craft traditions with contemporary horizons. The platform aims to support artisans through the power of connection and camaraderie across its communities and global networks.
The arts and crafts embody cultural identity and heritage in India, and artisans are the primary torch carriers and stewards of these traditions. India’s artisans produce some of the finest textile-based crafts known today, their artisanal skill encompasses generations of knowledge and richly diverse regional design. However, the rapid modernisation of the textile industry poses enormous challenges to the continuity of these skills and expertise and, in turn, has a detrimental impact on artisans’ livelihoods.
To date, we work closely alongside artisan graduates of Somaiya Kala Vidya, a design school in the western district of Kutch, India, crafting product born for a co-creative design approach.
Additionally, collaboration with Rangsutra, a company owned by a community of over two thousands artisans across rural India, entails the creation of upcycle leftover SALONI fabrics into one-of-a-kind ‘ralli’ quilts to create employment and further empower women artisans.
