The Venyx x SALONI connection continues

Creativity breeds creativity and friends make for great collaborators. This has been Saloni Lodha’s longtime mantra, leading to finding inspiration in the circle of friends that surround her. Her collaboration with Eugenie Niarchos, founder and creative director behind Venyx jewellery was the result of a meeting of minds. A quick look at the World of SALONI and Venyx World can glean full insight into their similarities.

Creativity breeds creativity and friends make for great collaborators.  This has been Saloni Lodha’s longtime mantra, leading to finding inspiration in the circle of friends that surround her.

Where one is an itinerant, travelling snow to sea in what looks like a matter of minutes, the other is the sum total of her cross-cultural upbringing. Both savour a style that sways towards the go-anywhere, do-anything dress, and both are guided by a higher love for far-off prints and patterns.

Their paths first crossed when they met through a mutual friend leading to a first creative collaboration in 2018. “We are drawn to a lot of the same things so we wanted to bring our two design aesthetics together and to have fun with the collection by creating a complementary vision,” Lodha said. The Bengal Tiger, a consistent motif in Eugenie’s designs, was sprawled across midi dresses, while mirror work found its way to crepe de chine skirts and blouses in a romantic palette of dusty pink, turquoise blue and iridescence.

“We are drawn to a lot of the same things so we wanted to bring our two design aesthetics together and to have fun with the collection by creating a complementary vision,”

And so, it wasn’t long before the duo listened to the demand of the market to deliver an encore. On November 26, 2019, Lodha and Niarchos launched their second collaboration — Venyx 20, a capsule collection that again collates the best of both their worlds. There are vintage leopard prints, that you’d likely see on Grace Jones, Bond-girl brights worked into Saloni classics like the Marissa Mini and Ginni Midi, but also newer shapes including a cheongsam, key-hole necks and a kimono-like combination of a jacket and trouser. On the night of the launch, friends, family and creatives came together to celebrate the creative partnership. We get a closer look at what went down.
